Secret Sin

secret sins 1In today’s society, it is easy to become caught up in the midst of everything that is taking place around us. We attribute it to being a part of ‘everyday normal life.’ But is it really ‘normal’? By whose standards are we gauging this ‘normalcy’? Sex, drugs, substance abuse, lying, adultery, murder, hedonism, occult practices…the list goes on. While these may be the extreme cases, what about the sin that often go hidden…far off of the radar? The sin about which no one else knows?…

secret sins 2The secret sin may be hidden from the eyes of those around you, but they are not hidden from the eyes of the All-Seeing God. Solomon teaches us in the Book of Proverbs that,

“…the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord…” and “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good…” (5:21;15:3).

In other words, we may think that we have gotten away with committing an act because we have not been called into question by someone else. However, at some point, our sin will come to the light and we will have to give an account for them (Num. 32:23; 2 Sam. 11-12:14; Mt. 10:26; 1 Cor. 4:5; Rom. 14:10-12).

secret sins 4We must come to terms with the fact that there are no ‘big sins’ nor are there ‘little sins’, but there is secret sin that can keep us from having a right relationship with God (Sg. of Sol. 2:15). It does not matter how we may attempt to categorize it, there are no sins…for it is all sin. Sin is sin in the eyes of God and His holy and righteous nature will not allow Him to even look upon sin without rendering consequences:

“Thou art of purer eyes (the holiness and moral purity of God) than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity…”; “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption (destruction)…” (Hab. 1:13; Gal. 6:7,8).

secret sins 3We may not be called out to answer for our sin now, but if we do not repent, we will surely answer for them later…#‎thinkonthesethings

  1. Sin is fun for a season, but there will always be a price to pay. “We may not be called out to answer for our sin now, but if we do not repent, we will surely answer for them later” Well said!

    1. Thank you! It is fun and addictive. But the consequences are not fun at all. We are so consumed with what others are doing to the point that we fail to examine ourselves from daily.
