A Special Place

How does God commune with us? How do we commune with God? This speaks of the transcendence of God. God can be here, but yet still be there. God can live in me, but yet still live within you. God can speak to me, but yet still be speaking to you. God is able to interact with each of us simultaneously. Each conversation and interaction between God and us is so unique to each of our experiences, and they all combine to fulfill one singular purpose.

When we erect an altar within our hearts, God meets us there and speaks to us through our spirit. God tells the children of Israel that,

“…He will come unto them in all places where He records His name…” (Ex. 20:24).

Later, God promises that if the children of Israel are obedient to his commands, then

“…all the people of the earth shall see that they were called by the name of the Lord…” (Deut. 28:10).

God longs for this place of communion with us. This is a promise for those who remain faithful to Him. This is a provision made for those who may have gone astray and desire to return to fellowship with Him.

If we allow the Holy Spirit to transform our hearts into a mercy seat, God promises that,

“…there I will meet with you, and I will commune with you from above the mercy seat…” (Ex. 25:22);

and then again in Jeremiah 24:7,

“And I will give them a heart to know Me, that I am the Lord: and they shall be My people, and I will be their God…”

new spirit

Also in Ezekiel 36:26,27,

“A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. And I will put My Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in My statutes, and ye shall keep My judgments, and do them…”

With all of the wonderful promises mentioned above by God and throughout God’s Word, all He asks of us is to prepare a special place wherein He can spend a little time with us. This is not much to ask for…after all He is the Sovereign Creator and Ruler of ALL things…it is a special privilege and honor just to receive such a request…#‎thinkonthesethings‬

  1. I love the mercy seat allusion, and preparing a special place where God can “spend a little time with us.” Just a little…
