“The Lord is known by the judgment which He executeth: the wicked in the work of his own hands. The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God…” (Ps. 9:16,17)
Please read the message that follows in its entirety before formulating any opinions…
I normally will keep silent about current events until I have heard most of the “facts” about the situation. Why? There are two reasons: 1) My grandfather used always tell me, “Son, if you are not an eyewitness, then you are a false witness.”, and 2) My mind will never forget General Colin Powell being sent to the United Nations with a report about Saddam Hussein and weapons of mass destruction, which later was revealed to be false and inaccurate. I remember Gen. Powell’s reaction upon learning that his intelligence was inaccurate. That will never leave my memory…but this is different…
Why did I choose to begin today’s thoughts with this? On yesterday, the United States Supreme Court rendered a landmark decision concerning same-sex marriages, which resulted in a monumental “victory” for those in the LGBTQ community. There was outrage from those who have taken an antithetical stand against the decision from both within religious communities and those outside of religious communities. Then, conversely, there was outrage from those within the LGBTQ community and their supporters based upon the fact that now they have the majority of the judiciary from the highest court in the land standing behind them.
Although yesterday’s decision dealt an enormous blow to the belief systems of the religious communities which subscribe to marriages being between a man and a woman, it did much more that. The decision rendered by the justices of the United States Supreme Court literally thumbed its nose at the Creator of the Universe and said, “It’s okay, God…or Whoever You are…we’ll take it from here…” This is seriously troubling as it sends the message that America does not need God any longer and His once needed protection, provision and guidance is being rejected openly.
America speaks openly with a forked-tongue. With one breath, its leaders are saying, “God bless America!,” but how can America expect God to bless her when she refuses to be governed by His Kingdom principles? America has “In God we trust” imprinted upon her currency, but yet she continues to take misguided steps without first consulting Him and asking for His guidance and direction. We cannot say that we seek God for His counsel when our decisions stand antithetically to His Word. GOD WILL NOT PROVIDE COUNSEL THAT IS INCONSISTENT WITH AND CONTRARY TO HIS WRITTEN WORD!
It is very understandable why the whole of Christianity is being labelled as being hateful. Although the intentions were good, some of the very vocal people HAVE spewed messages of hate. That is their decision. In my belief, they represent themselves. In my opinion, both sides have “cherry-picked” verses from the Bible to support their stance. Yes…the Bible does speak against a man lying with a man as with a woman. Yes…the Bible does say that God is love. But the Bible also says that God is holy and His holy eyes are unable to look upon evil. The Bible also says to love our neighbors as ourselves…both sides are absolutely correct in stating these. However, I believe the motives from which they quote these passages of Scripture are what are on the witness stand at present and are in question.
As followers of Christ, we would do well to take notice of his approach to situations. Christ ALWAYS accepted the person as they were without accepting their lifestyle. Does this mean that we are to be tolerant? That is not what I am saying because it would present a false representation of the Kingdom as it would appear to be straddling the fence when we know what the Bible says in no uncertain terms. But it does mean that we are to meet the person where they are and extend to them the same grace, mercy, love, and compassion that God has and still does extend to us daily. We do not have to move one step away from God’s Biblical and Kingdom principles. If the person chooses to reject the Word that has been presented in love, then they will be held accountable. If we have presented God’s message of love laced with venom, then we will be held accountable.
Having said all of that, I will now say this…I am not in support of same-sex marriages as it is inconsistent with what I believe to be God’s ordained structure for marriage: a man and a woman. I will not spread hate messages about the “alternative” lifestyle. I will continue to communicate the message of the Cross and God’s Kingdom to everyone in an equal manner. I choose to love the people who engage in the “alternative” lifestyle because that is what I believe God does. I do not believe that God is pleased with yesterday’s decision; however, God is the Ultimate Authority and Righteous Judge…not me…not you…not even the justices of the United States Supreme Court. God is well capable of speaking for Himself…when HE is ready to do so. We have to be careful about what we speak on His behalf…many times, it is not God Who has spoken…but what we have presumed to speak for Him…#thinkonthesethings
