The Consent Of Our Conscience

consent of conscience

It will always be okay to sin as long as we can obtain the consent of our conscience. If our conscience agree with our actions, then it becomes easier to engage in activities which we know are contrary to God’s Word, and thereby broadening the breach between us and God. Paul says in his Epistle to the Romans,

“But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things (ref. 1:18-32)…Which show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or excusing one another…” (2:2,15).

Sin, in any way, shape, form or fashion, disrupts our relationship or our potential relationship with God. God is holy and He requires us to live lives of holiness in order to be in relationship with Him. In order to be in a relationship with someone, we must be able to “relate” to the other person. God, in His holiness, cannot relate to sin. In our sinful state, we cannot relate to God. In order for a relationship to be established, either we must begin to lean toward living lives of holiness or God must lean toward becoming mired with sin. The latter, we know, will never occur as it would mean that God would cease to be God and there would no longer be a standard to which He would be able to hold us.

We cannot continue to manufacture excuses to continue in sin, especially when God has provided a way out of a life of sin through faith in the atoning work of His Son Jesus Christ. We cannot allow our conscience “…to be seared with a hot iron…,” but we must

“…purge your (our) conscience from dead works to serve the living God…(and) draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water…For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation…” (1 Tim. 4:2; Heb. 9:14; 10:22,26,27)…#‎thinkonthesethings‬
