Day Twenty-Nine Of Consecration: Removing The Excess

When a house becomes uninhabitable, it must be torn down. The value of the property decreases as long as the structure is present. However, the overall value of the property can increase and can be salvaged once the structure is demolished. Our lives are sometimes like this as well.

Throughout the course of our lives, we allow so many things and people to attach themselves to us. Their  presence alone can diminish the potential value of our lives and our future as they influence much of how we perceive things in life and how we respond to things in life. Unless we remove them from our lives or ourselves from the relationship, we can greatly limit the influence of the Holy Spirit within our daily lives. We can, then, become “uninhabitable” because we know that the Holy Spirit will not dwell in an unclean vessel.

But the pieces of the puzzle never quite fit, and it causes us to become confused and puzzled. We must understand that they were never designed to be a part of our lives in the first place. More often than not, we are the primary source of this contention….not the devil…and we, therefore, become our own enemy. We give the devil too much credit for what he does not do and not enough credit for what he does do.

So as God begins the process of rebuilding our lives, we must take serious inventory of what and whom we have allowed to become a fixture within our lives. The Holy Spirit cannot complete His constructive work within us as long as He continues to see a “no-vacancy” sign upon the doors of our lives…#thinkonthesethings
