Surrender: The Inner Struggle…

We are not capable of living by the standards of the Word apart from the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. If we make the attempt to try, we will fall short every time. Why? Because living life apart from the indwelling of the Holy Spirit is to live carnally minded. Paul teaches us in the Epistle to the Romans,

…the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be…they that are in the flesh cannot please God…” (8:7,8).

Paul also mentions in the previous chapter that it is a constant battle between what he desires to do (live according to God’s standards) and what actually takes place (falling short of God’s standard because of the strength of the flesh):

“…For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members…” (7:22,23).

The more we make a decision to commit our lives to living by the standards of God’s Word, the more we realize that we desperately need the Holy Spirit to strengthen us in our every endeavor. It is a power struggle between what we know to be right according to the Word and what the enemy has used previously to dominate us through the weakness of our flesh. This calls for a daily surrender of our flesh to the leading of the Holy Spirit (Rom. 6).

Provision for maintaining a healthy and holy life has been granted in Christ Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit. We must ensure that advantage of the free gift of God’s grace for living holy and acceptable lives unto Him. The key to successful living is found in understanding the meaning of one simple word…surrender…#thinkonthesethings
