God’s Promised Gift, Pt. 2

“Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thine heart, dost thou go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee, and that he may perform the word which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob…” (Deut. 9:5).

As we continue to look at the parallel between Israel and our contemporary times, we must take notice that if we fail to live up to any of the expectations as a covenant participant, we stand the risk of losing the Gift and Promise. However, if we fall short of keeping our portion of the covenant with Him, and if we repent of our sin against God and our breach of the covenant, God will respond by extending His grace, mercy and forgiveness. This is because “…the Lord loved us, and because He would keep the oath…the Lord thy God, He is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love Him and keep His commandments to a thousand generations…” (Deut. 7:8,9).

Therefore, we must handle the Gift of God’s Son and the power and presence of God’s Holy Spirit with the utmost care and respect. We must respect the Gift’s value and treat Him as a treasure. We must never disregard Him nor treat Him as something common. He is holy. He is God. Just like the Father. Treat Him with the same level of respect and reverence that you extend to the Father. He deserves it!
