Discerning Your Position, Pt. 2

“But when ye go over Jordan, and dwell in the land which the Lord your God giveth you to inherit, and when he giveth you rest from all your enemies round about, so that ye dwell in safety…” (Deut. 12:10).

The psalmist instructs us to do three things: 1) “Trust in the Lord…”, 2) “Commit thy way unto the Lord…”, and 3) “Rest in the Lord…” (Ps. 37:3,5,7). Why? The psalmist responds by stating that, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord…” (Ps. 37:23). He knows what lies ahead…every scheme and plan of the enemy…and will “make a way to escape…” and “always causes us to triumph in Christ…” (1 Cor. 10:13; 2 Cor. 2:14).

This means if we would only cast everything into the hands of God,

“…the God of all grace…(will) make you perfect, establish, strengthen, (and) settle you…” (1 Pet. 5:7,10).

He will cause us to enter the land of inheritance and cause us to rest safely. He gives the assurance that regardless of what the enemy may bring against us, our Heavenly Father will cause us to triumph over him. In so doing, as an additional benefit, God will also enlarge our borders of faith while causing us to draw closer to Him in our covenant relationship with Him.

So what do we have to fret about? We can join the psalmist in saying,

“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God…” (Ps. 43:5).

Our Heavenly Father is the Sovereign God over all things and has all things in control.
