This Is Your God…My God…

“And ye came near and stood under the mountain; and the mountain burned with fire unto the midst of heaven, with darkness, clouds, and thick darkness…” (Deut. 4:11).

This speaks of a vivid and unexplainable paradox: bright, burning fire and the thickest black darkness. Together, it is used to describe hiddenness and revelation, mystery and accessibility, and transcendence and immanence. Only something that can be used to describe the overwhelming presence of the ever-present, all-powerful God. God is clothed in all simultaneously and still manages to not negate His existence. In our finite minds, we cannot frame the words which can accurately describe this God to others. We use words such as, indescribable, awesome, magnificent, splendor, majesty, beautiful, to name a few. However, they are still inadequate…this is my God and this is your God…
