“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord…” (Deut. 6:4).
When we make an outward profession, we are often defined by that profession. It is what others around us will remember us by. If our actions do not align with what we profess, others will be swift to remind of the words in which we have uttered. Why? Because we have created an identity for ourselves inadvertently. We will forever be associated with this identity until we either recant what we have said or we have change within our nature.
The words which we speak have the power to shape our paths in the very near or distant future. They have the power to determine how others will respond or react towards us. Therefore, when we are preparing to speak, we must choose our words wisely. Once the words have departed from our lips and into the atmosphere, they can never return. Our lives will forever be identified with them and they will either discredit or affirm us positively in the eyes of others.
