“For thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God: the Lord thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth…” (Deut. 7:6).
It is understandable why some may become full of pride upon reading that we “art an holy people unto the Lord thy God: the Lord thy God hath chosen the to be a special people unto Himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth…” It is an honor that anyone with understanding would desire to have bestowed upon themselves. However, this statement was not meant to bring about a feeling of arrogance. It was intended to bring about humility and the proper perspective about why we were set apart for God’s eternal purpose (vv. 7-9). Once we realize and accept the fact that there was nothing desirable about us in our previous sinful state, then we will be able to fully appreciate the love with which God has lavished upon us.
