“Ye have been rebellious against the Lord from the day that I knew you. Thus I fell down before the Lord forty days and forty nights, as I fell down at the first; because the Lord had said he would destroy you. I prayed therefore unto the Lord, and said, O Lord God, destroy not thy people and thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed through thy greatness, which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand. Remember thy servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; look not unto the stubbornness of this people, nor to their wickedness, nor to their sin…” (Deut. 9:24-27).
Motivating people to engage in the appropriate course of action can prove to be a difficult challenge…even for God it sometimes seems. Given the free will to make decisions on our own, this liberty often gets us into situations from which we cannot save ourselves. There are those who have been assigned to us by a Divine mandate to watch over us and to assist us through life’s journey by providing the guidance we need in making the right decisions. These people continue to lift us up in prayer before God regardless of the numerous times we have chosen to do other than what we have been counseled to do. We all know that we would have had a much different outcome if God had not listened to and favored the intercessory prayer of those who have labored out of their Divinely inspired love for us. We can never forget to render our gratitude unto God for those whose prayers have kept us from the brink of destruction and before “…the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need…” (Heb. 4:16).
