“Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend…” (Prov. 27:17).
I am excited this morning because there is a Men’s Breakfast at my local fellowship. This is an opportunity to connect with other men who are not ashamed to stand up and stand out for the belief in the Lordship of Jesus the Christ. There are so many other things that we could muster up to do today…especially since we have each worked hard this week, we have each encountered some form of opposition, just to name a couple of things. However, this is something of great significance to each of because we value our relationship with Jesus and we value this opportunity to fellowship with one another. It is a moment to reflect, to cry, to encourage, to grow, to form new relationships, to be challenged, and to become equipped to return into the marketplace to advance God’s Kingdom agenda in the midst of a very difficult time for our community, region, nation, and even the collective world community.
We, men, attempt to project this image of strength and bravado to the outside world, while deep within we have the same inner longing to be connected to something greater and with meaningful purpose. We, too, seek to have intimate friendships with other likeminded men to form our own brotherhood to ensure some form of realm of security and safe space to become vulnerable with one another. We often, do not wish to admit it, but it is true. It is difficult for us to form these types of bonds, but when we do, we value them greatly because they often come at great cost to our maleness.
My prayer for today is that God will empty each of us of our bravado and machismo and release His awesome power upon us all, filling us to the point of overflow with His anointing…that we will come forth as true sons of God and return to our homes with a greater sense of purpose.
