“Jack! Jack!” Shiv noticed that Jack slipped into a deep thought and was trying to reel him back into the present. “Jack?!” Jack jumped a little at Shiv’s nudge.
“Huh? What? What happened?
“I don’t know. One minute we were talking about your prospects of settling down and you just zoned out on me, man.”
“Had a thought about someone.”
“Sheila Winters?! Now there’s a name that I have heard in years.”
“And one I haven’t thought of in years.”
“What made you think of her? Have you heard from her since Lee?
“My mind just went back while we were talking…”
Shiv interrupted, “…you don’t say.”
Jack shot him a look that said, ‘I’m trying to be serious here!’ Shiv noticed the look and quickly apologized.
“I was trying to think of how to make you understand why I feel so strongly about my convictions about relationships.” Jack took a sip of his coffee and realized that it was sitting for so long that it had turned cold. He pressed the speakerphone, “Laura.”
