Psalm 91: Our Blessed Assurance

There is one place we can always run to in times of distress: God

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God in Him will I trust…” (Ps. 91:1-2).

Psalm 91 always brings comfort to those who love reading the Bible. It is a source of peace and assurance that even in times of uncertainty, God is reliable. He is our Rock and Shield. An Impenetrable Fortress. Our safety and hope are in Him alone.

A Psalm Of Intimacy

Psalm 91 speaks of an intimate relationship one has with God. We know that, regardless of the situation that confronts us, God’s presence alone is enough to build confidence within. Our enemy roars like a lion, but our Lord is The Lion of Judah. It is one thing to act as though you are something. However, it is another thing to actually be it.

A Psalm Of Assurance

Psalm 91 teaches us that if our complete confidence is in God’s ability, then there is no need for us to fear any threat from the enemy. Our God is All-Powerful. There is nothing and no one that can stand against Him. As a result, we come through life’s challenges victoriously because God is for us and is fighting for us.

Conclusion

It reminds me of the old hymn, ‘A Mighty Fortress Is Our God’, by Martin Luther. What great peace in knowing God is so willing to surround us with His powerful presence! Oh, such great assurance and confidence we should have in knowing that the storms of life must cease at the sound of His voice! Our Heavenly Father is the Incomparable God before Whom all of creation must bow! This includes our enemy as well.
